Pastor Hillman

HusWif2013 Dr. Jerry W. Hillman was born in Dallas, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Chemistry from North Texas State University (University of North Texas) in Denton, Texas. While pursuing a medical degree to become a doctor, Jerry relocated to Arizona to attend Arizona State University.


During his graduate work at Arizona State University, God called him to preach. He later relocated to Fort Worth, Texas to attend seminary. In December 1986, Jerry graduated from the world’s largest school of theology, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Fort Worth, Texas. He received a Master of Divinity in Theology concentrating in Evangelism and Missions. In May 2011, Jerry earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Phoenix Seminary, in Phoenix, Arizona. His dissertation is entitled: Understanding Our Evangelistic Call to the Nation of Islam: Strategies for Reaching Members of the Nation of Islam.

From January 1987-November 2003 Jerry served in full-time ministry at the First Institutional Baptist Church, Dr. Warren H. Stewart, Sr., Pastor. During the first seven years, he served as Minister of Youth and Social Service, and during the last nine years, he served as Minister of Evangelism and Discipleship.  In 2004 Jerry and his family united with Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Sherman J. Fort, Pastor.  From 2006-2012 he served as the Minister of Evangelism.

Father-1Jerry is committed to fulfilling the Great Commission, the number one mandate of the Church. He is presently the new pastor of Salt of the Earth Baptist Church, Phoenix, Arizona. Jerry is also a professor for the Southwest School of Theology (CLD Program-in cooperation with Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary).

Jerry’s lovely and devoted wife is the former Charlotte Denise Great. They are blessed with their only child, Cassaundra Michelle.
